David Carter was a planter of Hyde County, N.C. The collection includes letters received by Carter from his sons at Randolph-Macon College and the University of North Carolina, and from Virginia where they were serving with the Confederate army. Also included are a brief lumber record and soldier's memoranda book, and other miscellaneous letters.
